SAN SEBASTIAN DOWNED FAR EASTERN University, 25-23, 14-25, 26-24, 25-21, to forge a tie for second with its victim in the Shakey?s V-League Season 6 second conference Sunday night at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Overwhelmed by Ateneo in their previous outing, the Lady Stags showed overpowering form against the Lady Tamaraws to move within a victory of clinching a place in the semifinals.

San Sebastian, which has split its four games in the quarterfinals, can advance with a victory over St. Benilde at 2 p.m. today.

Far Eastern takes another crack at a semifinal berth when it tangles at 6 p.m. with early semifinalist University of Santo Tomas.

Clashing in the second game at 4 p.m. are Ateneo and Adamson with the winner gaining the inside track to the last semifinal berth.

?It was a hard-earned win but at least we are on track for our next goal, which is to make it to the semis,? said San Sebastian coach Roger Gorayeb, who steered the Lady Stags to a fifth straight NCAA crown last month.

Alumna Jinni Mondejar came through with her best game of the tournament yet, scoring 14 points, an output matched by skipper Joy Benito.

Melissa Mirasol and Margarita Pepito contributed 14 points each.

Cherry Vivas, the league?s scoring leader, registered 17 hits and Shaira Gonzalez, added 16, but they couldn?t stop the Lady Tamaraws from falling to 7-4.

The Lady Eagles, who split their last two games despite the absence of guest player Charo Soriano, are running fourth with 6-4 record, while the Lady Falcons are a game behind with a 5-5 slate in the tournament sponsored by Shakey?s Pizza, Mighty Bond, Mikasa, Accel and Oracare.
