RTU extends Scuaa reign in three events

ASSURED OF THE OVERALL crown, Rizal Technological University sustained its impressive romp in athletics, boxing and cheer dance competitions of the 22nd State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (Scuaa)-National Capital Region.

RTU captured all but one of the 17 gold medals at stake to rule the two-day athletics event recently at the Rizal Memorial track and field oval.

Christopher Demate topped the 400-meter hurdles and 400m dash, while Rey Chris Capipisan scored in the long jump and high jump to power the Blue Thunder to a nine-gold sweep in the men?s division.

The other winners were James Espino (shot put), James Dymar Ramiro (100m hurdles), Richard Celestino (5,000m run), Denden Cartavio (1,500m run) and Dennis Ladion (100m dash).

The RTU women?s champions were Cecilia Constantino (100m and 400m hurdles), Mary Jane Aguilar (1,500m run), Jasmin Chavez (100m dash), Katherine Cacho (40m dash), Judelyn Capistrano (discus) and Aisa Rosero (shot put).

Polytechnic University of the Philippines? Jenny Mae Topacio, however, averted a sweep by bagging the long jump title over RTU bet Beverly de la Cruz.

RTU dominated boxing by topping four of the six weight divisions and amassed 234 points to rule the cheer dance competition.

PUP, which settled for a runner-up finish in athletics, picked up the two other gold medals at stake in boxing.

RTU also prevailed in men?s and women?s basketball, taekwondo, chess, arnis, badminton, men?s and women?s volleyball, beach volleyball, sepak takraw and futsal.
