MANILA, Philippines?Davao slugged its way to four gold medals in boxing even as Central Visayas dominated karatedo with 13 victories on Friday in the Commission on Higher Education 2010 National Games at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
The fighters from Region 11 scored through light flyweight Mark Anthony Barriga, a three-time Palarong Pambansa champion, lightweight Alfredo Deano, welterweight Jefferson Nunez and light welter Jay-Ar Inson.
Cordillera Administrative Region bagged three golds through Crisanto Godarem (fly), David Pacray (bantam) and Glicerio Catolico (feather) while National Capital Region scored a victory through middleweight Jay Harold Gregorio.
University of Mindanao and Davao City head coach Eric Mancao said they expected the triumph because of the strong support of Rep. Anton Lagdameo and former solon Tony Boy Floirendo.
?We have complete facilities which have been operational for the past seven years,? said Mancao.
Anne Marie Dela Riarte sparked the karatedo romp of Central Visayas by grabbing the women?s individual kata and the 50-kg kumite gold medals.
The Visayans also captured the men?s and women?s kata championships.
Serenata Saluan, the 17-year-old golden girl of NCR?s athletics team, plucked her fourth gold by anchoring her team to victory in the 4x400-meter relay.
The UAAP Rookie-MVP from University of Santo Tomas, a Music, Arts and Physical Education freshman, earlier collared the golds in the 3,000m, 1,500m and 800m.
