MANILA, Philippines?Putting a premium on quality over quantity, Letran College snapped College of St. Benilde?s two-year reign in the NCAA by snaring the general championship of Season 85 that ended recently.

The Knights amassed 325 points to nip the Blazers, who finished with 321.60 points, and win their first general championship in seven years.

?Our program and philosophy in sports is very effective?it?s quality participation,? said Management Committee chair Fr. Vic Calvo of Letran.

The victory hiked Letran?s overall title collection to eight, good for second behind Mapua Institute of Technology?s haul of 21.

San Sebastian College claimed its first general championship in three years in the juniors division by notching 295 points to also spoil CSB-La Salle Greenhills? bid for a third straight title.

The Junior Blazers wound up second with 280 points.

Letran collected titles in men?s volleyball, chess, men?s beach volleyball and lawn tennis.

St. Benilde ruled football for the first time since it joined the league 12 years ago and women?s table tennis.

Finishing third in the seniors division was San Sebastian, which will host Season 86 this June, with 306 points.

The SSC Stags prevailed in men?s basketball, women?s volleyball and athletics. San Beda College finished fourth with 289 points on the strength of its victories in taekwondo, swimming and men?s table tennis.

University of Perpetual Help ranked fifth with 213 points, followed by Mapua with 153.60 and Jose Rizal University with 129.

Arellano University was the best among the guest teams with 156 points followed by Emilio Aguinaldo College (90.60) and Angeles University Foundation (82).
