MANILA, Philippines?Garvo Lanete stood out with his torrid shooting that lifted San Beda College past bitter rival Letran College and extended the Lions? winning streak to four games in the 86th NCAA men?s basketball tournament.

Hardly showing any rust coming from a two-week break, Lanete drained 22 points, including three triples to power a 77-60 rout of the Knights last Wednesday.

?He just knows when to step up,? said San Beda coach Frankie Lim of Lanete, the Accel/FilOil NCAA Press Corps Player of the Week. ?He can hit big shots when you need it from him, that?s how good this kid is.?

The 21-year-old guard also grabbed five rebounds and two assists with the same number of steals for the Lions, last year?s runner-up who loom as the strongest contender to San Sebastian?s reign.

San Beda seized double-digit leads early, before the Knights threatened late in the third quarter by trimming the Lions? lead to 10.

That?s when Lanete stepped up the plate, pouring eight points in a telling 14-0 run that sealed the outcome early.

Lanete edged rookie transferee Rocky Acidre of Arellano University Chiefs, Raycon Kabigting of Jose Rizal University and San Sebastian College?s Calvin Abueva for the weekly citation.
