DOHA ? Former Smart Gilas Pilipinas import and naturalization candidate CJ Giles has said he remains open to rejoining the national program in its quest to secure the lone Asian berth for the 2012 London Olympics.
?If we could clear things out, why not?? said the 6-foot-11 Giles on Tuesday.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas rescinded Giles? contract because of the spring-loaded forward?s erratic behavior.
?Right now, I have nothing to do. I?ll just have a quick stop in Beirut, go straight to the US and chill out,? said Giles, who helped Smart Gilas clinch fifth place in the Fiba Asia Champions Cup in 2009 in Jakarta.
In 2010, Giles, playing for Lebanon?s Al-Riyadi, frustrated the national team in the quarterfinals of the two-import tournament here with a three-pointer in the closing minutes that sealed Smart Gilas? doom.
The Nationals crashed out of the medal race and wound up in seventh place while Giles and Al Riyadi went on to play in the semifinals.
ASU Jordan?s import Oyedeji Olumide also left his phone number with SBP officials while Marcus Douthit, will arrive in Manila on June 8 for a series of tryouts.
Meanwhile, Lebanon?s basketball icon Fadi El Khatib showed interest in playing as an import in the PBA.
