Bare Eye
No, Sky(Cable) is not the limit

MANILA, Philippines -- The first to complain about being shortchanged by SkyCable were local fans of the Los Angeles Lakers.

Their favorite team was off to a fantastic start in the NBA wars.

But for nearly two weeks now, they could not determine where Kobe Bryant et al. were headed.

OK, there had been sketchy NBA reports in the newspapers, but these only helped whet fan appetite.

So far, there has been no advice or explanation from the popular cable provider on what’s going on.

The regular NBA feeds, courtesy of Solar Sports, just went pffft.

* * *

Anyway, it has become clear that SkyCable got greatly disabled following the exit of Solar Sports.

Countless followers of the Lakers, naturally, have realized they are being hoodwinked by SkyCable, which used to provide regular NBA games all week long.

In fact, there are many subscribers who swear that the only reason they bought Sky was because of the splendid Solar supplement that carried super sports shows, mainly basketball and boxing.

* * *

Of course, there’s a bigger problem.

All these cheated subscribers could do was grumble.

They unanimously feel like victims of daytime robbery.

But all they could do was stare blankly at the Sky, swear and sigh.

The truth is that these cable subscribers have become victims of shameless graft.

Look, if there’s a government agency in charge here, it need not search and investigate.

The elements of fraud are there.

* * *

For example, isn’t it already outright cheating if SkyCable continued to collect fees for services they’re unable to render?

OK, SkyCable could insist there was nothing in the contract (with subscribers) that it would continuously provide them with great Solar Sports feeds.

But then, majority of these cheated people definitely chose Sky because of the Solar package.

Take it from solid sports enthusiasts.

Minus Solar Sports, they are being made to pay their monthly fees for nothing better than garbage.

* * *

This is a sensible matter but it reflects on this government that it has not taken a single move to remind SkyCable of its responsibilities to the public.

The initial suspicion is that there are powerful politicians behind SkyCable.

Otherwise, why would President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo look the other way while poor constituents are being cheated in the open?

Ok, it’s said that the rift between Solar and Sky was an offshoot of their money war over Manny Pacquiao.

* * *

Pacquiao, no doubt, is always worth the great gamble.

But why should the public suffer just to satisfy other people’s blind greed?

Listen, please. While this government has refused to make a move, we must not allow ourselves to be victims forever.

Get up and revolt!

There’s always Destiny Cable to turn to.

In fact, there are many fans out there who now feel vindicated for having stuck it out with honest, less influential cable providers like Las Pińas and Global.

Call now. Sky is not the limit.
