MANILA, Philippines--OLYMPIC-BOUND TAEKWONDO JINS Tshomlee Go and Mary Antoinette Rivero get a firsthand feel of the Beijing Games when they fly to China for the Olympic test event from Feb. 23-27.
The two qualifiers won’t see action in the event but will instead be observers in the competition that will simulate the conditions and system of the taekwondo event in the Olympics this August.
RP team head coach Stephen Fernandez said the country will field a separate team in the test event, including John Paul Lizardo Alexander Briones and sisters Kathleen Eunice and Kirstie Elaine Alora.
Briones and the Alora siblings tried out for the Olympic qualif ying events but failed to book Beijing berths.
Go is fighting in the men’s -58kg while Rivero, 19, will see action in the female -67kg. Both will train extensively in Korea under Korean coaches, according to taekwondo officials.
