MANILA, Philippines -- New Hapee coach Louie Alas turned to the Complete Protectors' old reliable cast to hammer out a 77-62 triumph over Toyota Otis and get their campaign off to another strong start in the PBL Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup Tuesday at The Arena in San Juan.
The trio of Mark Borboran, Fil-Am Gabe Norwood and Larry Rodriguez proved enough to carry the offensive load as the Complete Protectors made do with just a 10-man lineup.
Borboran buried a game-high 21 points after presiding in the final canto that turned the Complete Protectors' slim 46-43 edge into a 67-55 spread heading into the last two minutes.
Along with Hapee, Pharex also joined opening-day winners Harbour Center and Noosa Shoes on top of the team standings following an 86-83 triumph over Bacchus in the first game.
Don Vilamin grabbed a crucial rebound and nailed two key free throws with 4.6 seconds remaining as the Medics survived the Raiders' rally from a 54-41 deficit in the third period.
