2 p.m.—Burger King vs Bacchus
4 p.m.—Toyota Otis vs Harbour Centre
MANILA, Philippines—Harbour Centre needed a dominating performance from Jason Castro before whipping the Nokia Philippine Youth Team, 103-64, for its ninth straight triumph in the PBL Lipovitan Amino Sports Cup on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan.
But the limelight fell on Toyota Otis as the Sparks halted Hapee Toothpaste’s four-game winning streak with a 76-73 upset win in the final match of the three-game bill.
Earlier, Noy Javier delivered the points Noosa Shoes needed in the final stretch in an 80-73 victory over skidding Pharex.
Castro unloaded 15 of his 25 points in the third period as Batang Pier roared to a commanding 74-53 margin after being held to just a 46-39 lead at halftime by the guest team.
“We can’t play like this the rest of the tournament, we have to maintain our discipline,” said coach Jorge Gallent of the unbeaten Batang Pier, who are fresh from a disappointing second place finish to champion Indonesia in the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (Seaba) Champions Cup in Jakarta.
Jeff Chan also helped preserve Batang Pier’s double-digit buffer in the final quarter to finish with 19 markers.
Toyota Otis, Noosa Shoes, Pharex and the idle Burger King all wound up tied at 5-6.
Hapee remained second with an 8-4 record, while Pharex absorbed its fifth straight loss after an impressive 5-1 start.
