PUERTO PRINCESA CITY?Luck of the draw.
This, according to RP Olympic chief of mission Monico Puentevella, will be the decisive factor that taekwondo-jins Tshomlee Go and Marie Antoinette Rivero and boxer Harry Tañamor face in their respective campaigns in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
?The draw is a big factor,? said the first vice president of the Philippine Olympic Committee Wednesday. ?If we don?t meet the Chinese along the way, there will be something big waiting for us.?
Tañamor, the country?s lone qualifier in boxing, made it to the Olympics as runner-up to China?s Zou Shi Ming in the 48-kilogram (light flyweight) finals during the World Boxing Championship last year in Chicago.
Zou, who won the title bout, 17-3, is the heavy favorite for the gold in August. The 27-year-old Chinese, also the light fly world champion in 2005, was bronze medalist in the 2004 Athens Olympiad.
Puentevella said a favorable draw could also work wonders for Go and Rivero, who are in their second Olympic stint after falling short of a medal in Athens.
Go made the Olympic grade through the world taekwondo championships in Manchester, England last year while Rivero secured a second Olympic tour of duty through the Asian qualifying in Vietnam six months ago.
Other Olympians are swimmers Miguel Molina, Ryan Arabejo, Daniel Coakley, JB Walsh, Cristel Simms, divers Ryan Rexel Fabriga and Sheila Mae Perez, Mark Javier of archery and trap shooter Eric Ang.
