Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 01:40:00 05/16/2008

MANILA, Philippines--Jose Rizal University went to Keith Agovida as the Light Bombers squeaked past La Salle Green Hills, 81-78, Thursday and forged a playoff with the Greenies for a quarterfinal berth in the Nike Summer League basketball tournament at the Far Eastern University Gym.

Agovida scored 36 points as JRU tied idle De La Salle Zobel and LSGH on top with 5-1 cards at the end of group play.

The DLSZ junior cagers won automatic passage to the next round by virtue of its higher quotient.

College of St. Benilde, meanwhile, stunned Ateneo, 53-32, in women's action on Wednesday.

The Lady Blazers sowed the seeds of victory with an 18-2 spurt in the second quarter from which the Lady Eagles never recovered.

St. Benilde raised its record to 5-0, just behind Far Eastern U (6-0) in Group A.

Adamson also kept its unbeaten streak by dispatching Philippine Maritime Institute 65-57.
