MANILA, Philippines—Kim Yong-Hyun, the other half of the former world No. 2 in mixed doubles, heads the crack list of Korean players vying for top honors in the FDG Badminton Cup which gets going Friday at the Asuncion Badminton Center in San Juan City.
Joining Kim in the masters category of the event are Lim Jae-eun and Bark Su-hui, former members of the Korean national team, who will slug it out with top local shuttlers, headed by Kennevic and Kennie Asuncion, Brandon Chan, Albee Benitez, Ricky Morales, Toby Gadi and event organizer Frederick Go.
Also in the fold are top Indonesian players headed by former Olympic silver medallist Trikus Haryanto, Bambang Supriyanto, former world No. 3 in men’s doubles, and former Indonesian national team mainstays Nining Kustianing Sih, Rudy Widjaya, Kwee Tiek Ming and Yong Yudianto.
Cash prizes amounting to P250,000, trophies and fabulous raffle items will be up for grabs in the event to be graced by former beauty queen and TV personality Miriam Quiambao.
The two-day FDG Cup, which also features the elite category, is actually the highlight of the Partners Cup Invitational badminton tournament set on Saturday.
The Partners Cup features the management and staff of the Robinsons Land Corp.’s (RLC) and its business partners, architects, construction designers, management consultants, contractors and suppliers of RLC.
The annual event, held to promote fitness and health and at the same time foster camaraderie among RLC’s business peers and friends, will have five divisions, namely classes A, B, C, D and E.
