MANILA, Philippines—Canlubang and Wack Wack earned an extra point each by trashing their respective rivals at home over the weekend to forge ahead in Group 1 even as Orchard snatched the upper hand in Group 3 in the 2002 Federation League matches in various venues.

Wack Wack scored the young season’s biggest win so far after a 5-0 massacre of Camp John Hay while Canlubang dealt defending champion Royal Northwoods its third straight loss with a 4-1 conquest.

Canlubang and Wack Wack, with two wins and a loss in three matches, have five points including the point incentive given to teams scoring 4 points or more per match.

Manila Southwoods and Mimosa also opened their respective bids with big wins.

Southwoods banked on the 1-up victory of Theody Pascual and Danny Gutierrez in aggregate to defeat Valley while Mimosa stole a 3-2 decision over host Sherwood Hills following Pablo Alonzo and Emil Mendoza’s 1-up triumph also in the aggregate format.

An impressive 4-1 mastery of Highlands sent Orchard skyrocketing to the top in Group 3 play with the high-low tandem of Nap Marigomen/Jaye Escuadro’s giving the home team a big win after a draw with Valley in its opening outing.

Accounting for Orchard’s other wins were Joe Gonzales/Paul Salvador in greensomes, Robert Reyes/Kenjiro Ishihara in bestball and Ed Abesamis/JB Garcia in aggregate.

Tetu Santos/Tootsie de Jesus (greensomes), Leo Bote/Jasper Go (bestball), Oliver Gan/Sherwin Yu (scramble), Vince Siy/Elphege Wong (high-low) and Garry Uy/Kit Lopez (aggregate) all won their matches for Wack Wack.

Pulling off the sweep for Canlubang were the pairs of Luigi Yulo/Raoul Jorge, JR Banson/Joselito Quiros, Louie Guerrero/Marco Olives and Philip Brodett/Tony Olives.
