ILOCOS SUR—Marlon Kalaw hit the game-winning shot with four-tenths of a second remaining to lift host Ilocos past Quezon, 84-82, in the Liga Pilipinas opener at the People’s Coliseum in Santo Domingo town here Tuesday.

Before Kalaw’s heroics, teammate Eder Saldua tied the game at 82 with 1:17 minutes left to highlight a game-high 26 points.

In Misamis Orienal, Rino Berame and ex-pros Bruce Dacia and Stephen Padilla combined for 66 points as the Cebu Niños turned back the Taguig Batang Global in overtime, 98-93, at the Xavier gym in Cagayan de Oro City.

The Niños blew a 12-point lead with two minutes remaining in the fourth period as Taguig’s Marco Fajardo nailed consecutive baskets to forge an extra period, 82-82.
