MANILA, Philippines?A calendar in complete harmony with the BAP-Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas is what executive director Noli Eala wants from the Philippine Basketball Association.
Eala discussed SBP?s proposed calendar of events with PBA commissioner Sonny Barrios on Monday, hoping that the pro league would retain its current two-conference format to fit into the tournament timetable of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA).
Eala said Barrios received the proposition with an open mind and promised to give a feedback as soon as he takes up the issue with the PBA board of governors.
?The meeting was basically about the synchronization of the PBA calendar with the FIBA,? said Eala, who conceptualized the two-conference format of the PBA during his tenure as league commissioner two years ago.
Barrios, reiterating the PBA?s commitment to help in the formation of the national men?s basketball team, said his meeting with Eala was ?fruitful and informative.?
?Basically, it was an exchange of information and views,? Barrios said during Tuesday?s PSA Forum at the Shakey?s Pizza UN Avenue branch. ?The important thing is for us to know ano ang papel ng (what the role of) PBA (is), ano ang awtoridad (what is it?s authority?). ?
The only setback Barrios foresees once the PBA decides to lend its players anew is the effect on gate attendance.
