UAAP vows consistent application of rules

MANILA, Philippines--The UAAP Board decided to put a lid on the "ID controversy" that led to a disputed technical foul called on La Salle by vowing to implement all league rules "consistently and fairly."

"There was recognition of the need to make sure that all rules of the UAAP be applied consistently and fairly, and this will be in partnership with the commissioner and all officials," said league secretary-treasurer Herc Callanta of host University of the Philippines.

School representatives convened Saturday to tackle a La Salle letter sent to the UAAP board Wednesday, which noted that the Green Archers had been "unjustly penalized" with a technical foul over coach Franz Pumaren's failure to wear an official ID during the Ateneo-La Salle match.

As a result, the Archers gave up two free throws even before the opening tip of the game the Blue Eagles won, 78-73, last Sunday.

In the same letter, La Salle representative to the board Bro. Bernie Oca wrote that the school wanted the board to "rectify" the penalty slapped on the team.

The school, however, did not state what action it wanted the UAAP board to undertake. La Salle representative Bro. Bernie Oca no longer commented on the issue.

La Salle felt targeted by the technical foul because, as it noted, UST's Pido Jarencio also failed to wear his ID on opening day but was not sanctioned.
