Arenas praises RP hoop fans

Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 02:10:00 07/20/2008

GILBERT ARENAS REPAID THE WARMTH and hospitality he received during his recent visit here by making a pitch to NBA stars in behalf of the country.

“Just remember people, if you want to feel like a king and feel like a star, you know where to go: Manila,” Arenas posted on his blog.

In his latest post on his personal site, Arenas profusely praised Filipino basketball fans whom he visited during a four-day trip to the country to promote his line of Adidas shoes.

“One thing I want to say about Filipinos: they’re very warm people, very good-hearted people,” Arenas wrote. “Like, everybody was nice. You know, you meet nice people, but a whole country of nice, genuine, warm-hearted people was unbelievable.”

The Washington Wizards star marveled at the way Filipino fans purchased Gilbert Arenas products at Proline Sports Center stores—jerseys and Spalding basketballs—making him feel like a true-blue superstar who had just won an NBA title.

“It was like nothing I’ve ever seen before, and I’ve seen crazy fans all over the world,” Arenas wrote. “It was like Golden State against the Dallas Mavericks with Game 3 back in Oakland. It was that type of atmosphere in the mall.”

“They made me feel like an NBA star. I felt like I just won the NBA championship.”

“Any NBA players out there: If you’re having a bad day, or you’re having a bad career, go to Manila. They’ll bring your spirits up, trust me.”
