LAS VEGAS—A crack team from the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines tries to make its presence felt in the FIG (Federation Internationale de Gymnastique) Aerobic Gymnastics World Series starting Friday at the Loews Lake Resort.

The seven-man delegation, featuring national team mainstays Charles Mendez, Dico Ili, Christina Ferrer and Ajjie Mendelebar, will be pitted against the world’s first-rate aero gymnasts during the three-day event.

The 17-nation field includes Bulgaria, Italy, France, Great Britain, Germany, Argentina, Korea, Japan and China.

Philippine head coach Jay Beren said Mendez and Mendelebar will compete in the individual male category while Ferrer will see action in the individual female division. Ferrer will also see action with Ili in the mixed pairs event.

Beren said the team lost another entry in the individual female after Lester Go and Melonna Mira failed to join the trip.
