BARACAEL SHOOTING
Police to question FEU coach

MANILA, Philippines—The Manila Police District intends to invite Far Eastern University coach Glenn Capacio and team manager Anton Montinola for questioning to help shed light on the shooting incident that almost claimed the life of FEU cager Marnel “Mac” Baracael.

Chief Insp. Dominador Arevalo, head of the MPD homicide division which was tasked to help in the probe, said they were looking at game-fixing as one of the possible motives of the shooting that happened Thursday night along R. Papa Street near Philtrust Bank and FEU Gym.

He also said investigators have already seen the surveillance video from the bank.

The footage, however, failed to capture the actual shooting incident because the security camera was placed and focused on Nicanor Reyes Street, Arevalo said.

According to Arevalo, Baracael was shot as he was about to turn on R. Papa Street but it (shooting) was not caught on camera.

But the police official added that the footage showed at least three men standing outside the bank “as if they were waiting for something or somebody.”

“We strongly suspect that the men served as lookouts,” Arevalo said. “These men were seen pacing back and forth the area, one of them was even texting but when the shooting happened they did not even bother to check what was going on.”
