Kobe says he’ll be back in RP

BEIJING -- SOLAR SPORTS’ Patricia Bermudez and cameraman Jerry Cabrito were looking for inspiration after waiting two hours Wednesday night for light flyweight Harry Tańamor’s maiden fight to start at the cavernous Beijing Workers Stadium.

Out of the corner of her eye, Bermudez, pretty wife of former PBA heartthrob Vince Hizon, picked out familiar faces rushing toward the venue. Though the trio’s heads were covered by the hoods of their sweat shirts, the Solar star reporter knew right away who they were.

And the chase was on -- paparazzi style -- to catch up with Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony. The three NBA stars left their pricey hotel rooms to watch their compatriots fight their first boxing matches.

Bermudez tossed the inevitable question: “What can you say about the Philippines, Kobe?”

“Oh, it’s one of my most favorite places in the world!” gushed the Los Angeles Lakers superstar who has visited Manila twice in the last four years. “See you there soon.”

With that Bermudez and Cabrito came back to the venue’s press center wearing big, satisfied smiles.

“Masaya na ako I’m happy already, we managed to get Kobe on tape,” she said, her heart still racing. “What a day!”
