Air21 five bent on luring Jaworski

Air21 officials Monday formally presented their proposal to lure former basketball star and former senator Robert Jaworski as its Express team’s coach for the coming Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) season, a source privy to the negotiations said.

The source refused to reveal the details of the negotiations but he confirmed that another meeting was scheduled for sometime this week.

A with Air21 would be the comeback of Jaworski in the PBA, in which he became one of the biggest stars as a player for Toyota and later as player-coach for Ginebra San Miguel in the 1980s.

The PBA 34th season will open with the Philippine Cup on Oct. 4.

Signing up Jaworski has been a two-year-old dream for the Express. Management took the cue after Air21 finished second to Barangay Ginebra in the PBA Fiesta Cup Finals recently.

Aside from a first-ever championship for the franchise, management thinks Jaworski can also establish a massive fan base for Air21 like what he did for Ginebra.

This development came on the heels of current coach Bo Perasol’s wish to leave the team to pursue his MBA studies at the Ateneo de Manila University and help run a school that his wife has put up.
