One more win.
That’s what separates the San Sebastian College Staglets from a fourth straight NCAA Juniors basketball crown.
Arvie Bringas proved dominant in the extra period as the Staglets hacked out a 97-88 victory in overtime over Jose Rizal University (JRU) to complete a 12-game sweep of the elimination round yesterday at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
Scoreless in the fourth period, the 6-foot-5 Bringas poured eight of his 29 points in extra time to steal the limelight from JRU star Keith Agovida.
In his first game after setting a league-record 82 points, the 6-1 Agovida was made to work by a towering San Sebastian frontline, which held him to 7-of-25 shooting. Agovida still finished with 21 points and 18 rebounds.
“We actually focused on the other key players because we knew Agovida would get his points,” said San Sebastian coach Raymond Valenzona.
College of St. Benilde-La Salle Green Hills pulled the plug on San Beda College’s Final Four hopes with a 77-68 win in the second game.
