MANILA, Philippines?A dangerous mismatch that should not happen.
That?s how Massachusetts State Boxing Commission chair Daniel Fitzgerald pictured the Manny Pacquiao-Oscar De La Hoya fight on Dec. 6, according to boxingherald.com.
Fitzgerald said he was worried over the sheer height and heft disparity between De La Hoya, a 10-time world champion who is 5-foot-10, and the 5-foot-6 Pacquiao, who won the first of his four world titles as a flyweight.
?I wouldn?t even want to see the fight, except for pure curiosity,? Fitzgerald said.
?I would cringe at every jab and every punch that De La Hoya would throw because it?s going to hurt more than any punch that Pacquiao?s ever been hit with.?
Fitzgerald said that he wanted to voice his concerns over the fight.
?Manny Pacquiao is going to get seriously hurt unless De La Hoya goes easy on him, which you?re not supposed to do... This won?t go past four of five rounds and Pacquiao, given the warrior that he is, is going to take a vicious beating,? added Fitzgerald.
Last week, Internet reports said a Pennsylvania Athletic Commission official also criticized the extraordinary fight, while outspoken World Boxing Council president Jose Sulaiman branded it as a ?circus.?
