MANILA, Philippines—Two US NCAA Division II standouts lead the roster of 82 PBL rookie aspirants littered with 11 other Filipino players with foreign roots.

Filipino-American guards Joseph Deas and Jason Jackson recently signed up for the draft on Sept. 30, three days after the rookie camp, set this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 noon at the Jose Rizal University gym in Mandaluyong City.

“We have a lot of talents around who have yet to sign up, so I expect at least 100 participants for the coming rookie draft,” league commissioner Chino Trinidad said in a statement Monday.

Three Filipino-Australians—Christopher Pails, Reighner Macasaet and John Rowe—also joined the draft along with the Fil-Canadian pair of Keith Erwin Cayanong and Janzen Castillo, Fil-German Thomas Wagner, Fil-Arab Khalif Fortune and Fil-Americans Chriss Ross, Josh Vanlandingham, Anthony Davis and Edwin Torres Jr.

From the local collegiate ranks, the hopefuls include De La Salle University’s James Mangahas, Ateneo de Manila University’s Jonathan Uichico, San Beda College’s Chico Tirona, Adamson University’s Jerick Cañada, University of Visayas’ Von Harry Lanete and West Negros University’s Vengie Vergara.

But Trinidad also hopes to lure Ateneo stars Rabeh Al-Hussaini, Chris Tiu and Eric Salamat to join the league following their UAAP Finals campaign.

The 5-foot-11 Deas starred for Rockhurst University by once firing 32 points against Missouri University.
