SIX UNHERALDED THREE-YEAR-olds get the chance to score a feature race victory today as they battle it out in the P320,000 British Cup, an annual racing showcase of the Philippine Racing Club, Inc. and supported by the British Embassy at the Santa Ana Park.
This year?s running of the British Cup will be a unique showdown of locally-bred 3-year-olds, or foals of 2005, that have yet to accumulate winnings in excess of P300,000 since their first official start.
Competing in the 1,600-meter track encounter are Black Label, Dr. Jude Manapla, Shut Up, Successor and Wind Energy to be skippered by jockeys PR Dilema, VM Camañero Jr., RC Baldonido, JB Hernandez, JB Cordero and RL Lagrata.
Herma Farm-bred Wind Energy and Shut Up, being the highest rated entries in the field, are likely to parade as top picks in the race that guarantees the winner P200,000 in prize money.
Wind Energy, a by filly by heart of Arabia (IRE) out of Write Me Fast, races in the colors of professional basketball player Paolo Mendoza, and is trained by his father Rodolfo ?Rudy? Mendoza.
Her latest win was set in a group race (Class 4 Division 3B) last July 27 at the SLLP where she posted a 10-length romp over quick-stepping Dr. Jude over 1,500-meters.
Meanwhile, Esguerra Stable-entry Shut Up, a dark bay bolt by Shooting Star out of Donttalktoomuch, has been steadily-improving since returning to action last July but has yet to land a victory.
Also entered are Girlie de Villa?s Dr. Jude (Say the Truth-Rose of Victory) and Dinky Santos? Successor (Fire King King-Succeed for Glory).
