MANILA, Philippines—Philip Jofer Escueta and Ariel Magnaye took home two championships each to top the Toby’s-Dunlop Youth Badminton Championships Friday at the Atrium A of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.
Escueta downed Ivan Angsico, 21-10, 21-4, to clinch the boys’ 16-under crown. He returned a few hours later to turn back John Gregg Paz, 21-12, 21-6, and add the boys’ under-18 to his haul.
“My hard work paid off today,” said Escueta, last year’s boys’ 14-under winner over Lance Erickson Bautista.
Magnaye and partner Gian Carlo Manuel dispatched Patrick Natividad and Charlo Tengco, 21-8, 21-14, in the boy’s 16-under doubles finals.
Magnaye then paired with brother Kiko in repulsing the pair of Randolf Balatbat and Ramon Dalo, 21-15, 21-19, for the boy’s 18-under doubles crown.
Colegio Monterie de Pila-Laguna, meanwhile, bested Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Laguna, 3-0, to secure the overall championship in the high school boys team Tie division.
