Cruz eyes URCC surprise vs Belingon

MANILA, Philippines—Wushu standout Kevin Belingon may have familiarized himself with Justin Cruz’s fighting style by watching his previous fights on the Internet.

But the 24-year-old Cruz feels he is capable of whipping up surprises that will catch Belingon off-guard in their Superfight that will headline the Colt-45 Universal Reality Combat Championship event dubbed Indestructible on Saturday at the A-Venue in Makati City.

“I’ll do whatever it takes to win,” said Cruz, the Guam-born fighter, who took the URCC bantamweight belt from Lino Tagacay last July.

For Belingon, who holds the URCC flyweight title, the fight is an opportunity to elevate himself into one of the elite wushu artists to come out of Baguio City.

“I really want to prove myself in this fight,” Belingon, 21, said.

In the main supporting bout of the event, Caloy Baduria seeks redemption against China’s Zhang Tie Quan in URCC middleweight title fight. Baduria is coming off a first-round stoppage loss to Eduardo Folayang last July.

“I had the wrong game plan against Folayang,” said the 28-year-old Baduria. “I wanted to wear him down and it didn’t work.”
