MANILA, Philippines—Boxing hero Manny Pacquiao is poised to lay claim on the ESPN Star Sports’ Champion of Champions competition, an online poll aimed at determining the athlete who made the biggest impact this year.

The world’s best pound-for-pound boxer appears on his way to a landslide victory over world No. 1 squash player Nicol David of Malaysia.

With the voting on its final day on Tuesday, Pacquiao is a cinch for the title with more than 90 percent of the votes cast in the website, www.espnstar.com.

The winner of the competition will be announced Wednesday on ESPN sportscenter.

The Filipino stormed into the finals by convincingly outpolling Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar in the semifinals.

Pacquiao also outvoted Liverpool striker Fernando Torres of Spain in the quarterfinal round, after winning over motorcycle racer Valentino Rossi in the first round.

Defying a size disadvantage, Pacquiao knocked out Oscar De La Hoya in their welterweight “Dream Match” early this month. Cedelf P. Tupas
