MANILA, Philippines?La Salle ended University of Santo Tomas? two-year reign in the UAAP men?s tennis with a sweep of the best-of-three Finals recently at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.

National athlete Patrick John Tierro and Irwin De Guzman shared the Most Valuable Player award after playing key roles in the series capped by a 4-1 victory in Game 2.

De Guzman blasted Miguel Narvaez for a 6-0, 6-3 triumph in the first singles match, while Tierro teamed up with Jandrick De Castro to pull off another decisive win, 6-0, 6-1, against Gerald Pinili and Roman Floreza in the doubles match.

Michael Basco downed Keane Barraquias, 6-1, 7-5, to seal the victory for the Archers as doubles partners Wilbur Orillano and Alexander Diego scored the lone win for the Tigers.

The Archers foiled the Tigers? bid for the outright championship by winning their showdown on the final day of the elimination round.

And the Archers sustained their dominance over the Tigers in the championship round to bag their first tennis crown since 2006.

Nikki Manalo bagged her second straight MVP crown with UST, which won the women?s tennis championship outright last week.

The Tigresses swept the elimination round to clinch their fourth straight crown.

Ateneo?s Julius Lagman and and La Salle?s Trudy Amoranto won the Rookie of the Year honors. Jasmine W. Payo
