RP’s Barbosa shares 2nd to 3rd spots in NY chess

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA?FILIPINO Oliver Barbosa held fellow International Master Alex Lenderman to a fighting draw in Thursday?s fourth and final round to share 2nd to 3rd places with the latter at the conclusion of the ?Original 4 Rated Games Tonight? in New York.

The Taytay, Rizal resident Barbosa, playing under the banner of Prospero ?Butch? Pichay Jr., president of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) and Lenderman, both tallied 3.5 points after four outings.

Sharing the limelight is former San Sebastian College bet Michael Adarlo who brought down Aaron Landesman to finish in 4th place along with five others in the group of 3.0 pointers that includes Oliver Chernin, Michael Hehir, Lawrence Tamarkin, Daniel Rohde and Linda Diaz.

Former US Junior champion Marc Tyler Arnold bested IM Jay Bonin to win the tournament with a perfect 4.0 points.
