FILIPINO RODEL MAYOL promised to come up with a fight plan against WBO light flyweight champ Ivan Calderon that “will not be boring” during the final press conference held Thursday in New York.
Mayol challenges the unbeaten Calderon for the title in the chief support of a card headlined by the Miguel Cotto-Joshua Clottey showdown at the Madison Square Garden on Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
Mayol assured fans that there will be a real fight against Calderon, who is known not for mixing it up but for dancing around the ring for entire distance.
“I would like to thank Top Rank for giving me the opportunity to fight at Madison Square Garden. This is my third time fighting for a title and I’m going to try my best to win this fight. Everyone knows Ivan Calderon is a good boxer but many say his fights are boring. I will make sure that on Saturday night this fight will not be boring,” Mayol told the media.
Calderon, although unbeaten in 32 fights, only has 6 knockouts in his record.
“He may say my fights are boring because you are used to see boxers hit and I’m never getting hit. I know it’s going to be a good fight. They trained and I trained hard for this fight. My style is hit, don’t get hit and go back home with no marks,” said Calderon.
