Fuentes stops Ranada, Melligen decisions foe

Cebu Daily News

Rocky Fuentes of the ALA Gym of Cebu City capped an evening of exciting bouts with a smashing second round knockout win over Allan Ranada of Bohol last Saturday in the Summit Fight Night Vismin boxing tour at the Mandaue Plaza.

Fuentes, whose record improved to 24-6-2 (win-loss-draw) with 14 knockouts, repeatedly scored with his left hook including the decisive body punch that finally floored Ranada, (7-21-1) who was counted out at 2:25 of the second.

Mark Gil Melligen of Bacolod also chalked up a unanimous ten-round decision win against veteran Roger Galicia to improve to 10-3-1, 3KOs.

Melligen floored Galicia (23-10-4, 7KOs) in the opening round but the mainstay of the Tiger City Gym of Mandaluyong got up and continued to fight.

Both fighters took turns leading and countering but Melligen landed the more powerful blows. The scorecards read, 96-93, 97-92 and 98-91.

Jun Intor once again brought the house down with his antics and won by unanimous decision over Roldan Malinao in a four-round contest.

Malinao was deducted a point in the last round due to a headbutt but his own blood did not stop Intor from scoring a 39-36,39-36, 40-35 victory.

Marjhun Macahilig survived a first round knockdown to beat Michael Espinosa by unanimous decision.

Powell Balaba won by split decision over Leo Torres, Jomar Cordinillo won by unanimous decision over JR Salvador while Jherpol Valero beat Melchor Abcede also by unanimous decision. /Correspondent Rene Bonsubre
