‘Unity Swim’ eyes Guinness entry

Philippine Daily Inquirer

THE AQUATIC Sports Association of the Philippines (Asap) and the Rotary Club of Manila-Remedios Circle (RCMRC) will attempt to make it to the Guinness Book of world records when they stage the 2009 Unity Swim, a marathon nonstop swim by thousands of volunteers, on October 24 at a venue still to be announced.

Organizing committee chair Susan Papa, Asap secretary general, said the event, to be held in celebration of United Nations Day worldwide, is expected to draw over 10,000 swimmers, experienced or beginners, who will swim 50 meters in an Olympic-sized pool.

The swimming marathon will continue nonstop, day and night, until the last swimmer completes the last lap.

A representative from the Guinness Book of Records will be invited to observe and record the proceedings of the event, which will start right after the awarding ceremonies of the third Asap age group competitions.

?This will definitely be a lot of fun so we are inviting all Filipinos to this worthy cause,? said Asap president Ma. Luz Arzaga-Mendoza. For details, call 0917-8050885, 0929-7641689 or 0920-9224475 or e-mail sansueboy@hotmail.com.
