Clark drag races kicks off

HIGH-SPEED ACTION RESUMES TOMORROW when the country?s fastest drivers vie for top honors in the kickoff leg of the 2009 Philippine Drag Racing Championship-Northern Series at the Clark International Speedway.

Fresh off a milestone feat, defending champion Jonathan Tiu starts his campaign for an unprecedented seventh straight crown.

Tiu will be challenged by racers driving V8 American muscle cars, including David G. Lim of DGL Motorsports, Vanni Garcia of W. Autosports-Vannitec, H3 Motorsports? Pepi Santos and Blanche Racing?s Ed Christian Go in the Quick 8 class.

Tiu holds the fastest quarter-mile record of 9.223 seconds at the Clark venue.

Drag racing director Fil Gulfin expects another record field following the culmination of the 2009 San Mig Coffee Drag Racing Championship.

Also seeing action are Jeannette Go, the country?s first female drag racing champ; Jonathan Young, Jon Sarmiento, H3 Motorsports driver John Kalaw and Team Ready?s Vic Mallare.
