EVERYBODY HAS AN OPINION ON the Wynne Arboleda controversy?from the vicious, ruthless attack on the fan to the punishment handed out by the PBA commissioner?s office.

Thus, the Inquirer gave its readers a chance to share their opinions on the issue:

?Celebrities should learn how to take the rough with the smooth with regards to their fans. Arboleda deserves nothing but severe punishment. If he can?t open himself to criticisms, he should stay as a private individual.? ?Isagani Jose, 55 years old, English and Social Science teacher

?I think the suspension is too long. Arboleda reacted that way because he was provoked. He did make a mistake of attacking the fan, but he is only human and was forced to react because it was already too much. He apologized, so a one-conference suspension would have been enough.? ?Jessie Rasay, 31, food vendor.

?I think the penalty is just enough. He knew he crossed the line. Though the fans have a responsibility to act properly during games, no player should be allowed to attack them and resort to violence.? ?Eric Melgar, 30, insurance company employee.

?He deserves the penalty. Prior to the incident he committed two flagrant fouls and I don?t blame the fan?s reaction to what he did because he nearly injured two players.? ?Jeff Cawaling, 24, BPO company employee.

?The penalty is too much. It?s more than P2 million in lost salary. He will be out of work for a year but he has a family to feed. A one conference suspension and a fine like P500,000 should have been enough.? ?Dexter Dy, 36, businessman

?The penalty is too light. He should have been banned for life so that other players will not do it again. He has also damaged the image of the PBA. The fan also made a mistake of shouting profanities at Arboleda. But Arboleda should have ignored him and continued playing.? ?Alfred Bayawa, 29, taxi driver

?What Arboleda did was wrong. You cannot win the heckling game against the fans and you should not resort to violence. The penalty is just right. I hope it serves as a lesson to other players that they should not attack fans.? ?Jesus Matabang, 27, service staff

?It?s just the right sanction. Arboleda could have killed a man before our very eyes had he not been restrained. He was that angry. Heckling is part of every ball game. If he hasn?t learned that by now he shouldn?t be playing at all.? ?Niqui Balaguer, 40, church lector

?He was wrong but I think the punishment is too heavy. His team needs him. The fan did something wrong, too, anyway and Arboleda just reacted to it.? ?Nestor Nepales, 39, tricycle driver

?The punishment is just. Arboleda was really wrong.? ?Jack Umabao, 33, security guard

?It?s unprofessional and Arboleda should undergo a psychological test.? ?Chris Conwi, 42, sales manager

?It?s just right that he was punished so we will learn his lesson. What he did was wrong and did not look good with the audience. It?s just right that the fan sued him. ?James DeTorres, 32, gas attendant

?Arboleda deserves the suspension. Pro players must not in any way harm any fan in any sport. They should know, even before playing their first pro game, that the fans are the lifeblood of their careers.? ?Wowie Lucas, 36, systems administrator MISCC-Marikina
