RONJAY BUENAFE converted a tough layup in the final 1.6 seconds to lift the Burger King Whoppers to a come-from-behind 91-89 win over the hardluck Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in an out-of-town game of the 35th PBA Philippine Cup yesterday at the Arturo Lugod Ggym in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental.
Buenafe's layup capped the Whoppers' comeback from several double-digit deficits and erratic free throw shooting in the fourth period.
Buenafe almost single handedly carried Burger Kings' searing fightback, scoring eight points in an 11-0 run that saw the Whoppers turning a 76-84 deficit to an 87-84 lead in the final 54.5 seconds.
Mark Yee was also responsible in that telling run when he knocked in a triple that tied the contest at 84-all before Buenafe delivered his own go-ahead trifecta.
Buenafe finished with 22 points, while Yee added 20 for the Whoppers, who nailed their second win in four games./EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
