BACOLOD CITY'S JM Ocana emerged victorious in the recent DC Summer X-Games of the Omega Pro-Casino Active Summer Break 9020 last Sunday after dominating the class A category of the skateboard competition at the Asiatown IT Park.
Ocana used a nifty 270-board slide trick to outperform his opponents and win the crown.
Edgar Morales finished second place while Bryan Palanca for third.
Ocana, thus, earned the right to represent Cebu in the National Finals to be held in Manila later this year. He also got a seat to the qualifying tournament for the World Championships in Singapore later this year. It will be an all-expense-paid trip courtesy of DC Shoes USA.
The winners were given DC gift packs and trophies. Parts of the tournament's proceeds were given to children with cancer at the Perpetual Soccour Hospital.
The event was postponed for a day due to rain. It started Sunday with skateboarders and BMX riders from all parts of the Visayas converging at the Asiatown IT Park. It was this year's first major skateboarding and BMX competition to be held here in Cebu.
Local skater Jiam Valdon ruled the class B of the skateboarding competition.
In the street and flatland categories of the BMX contest, Leeroy Grant and Kebong Evasco shared the podium after topping the respective categories.
Valdon used jaw-dropping tricks to top the class B category. Rodney placed second while Franklin Llaban placed third.
Grant, meanwhile, ruled the BMX division to outshine more than 20 talented riders, including second-placer Paul Mendoza and third-placer Elmer John Llanes./CORRESPONDENT DALE G. ROSAL
