Hitoz bags Cebu City badminton singles crown

Cebu Daily News

JEFF Hitoz of Cebu City Medical Center defeated Andrew Cuenca of the Mayors Office in the finals of the men’s singles badminton last Sunday, 21-14, 21-11 in the Cebu City Hall Inter-Department Sportsfest at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Some 17 singles and doubles participants competed in the Men's division while 16 took part in the women's class.

The Mayor’s Office pair of Danny Villagracia and Tony Suico avenged their loss in the Singles event by bagging the doubles title with an easy, 21-7, 21-18 victory over CCMC’s Hector Flores and Anthony Navarro.

Tony Suico also grabbed the bronze medal in Singles after beating Flores, 21-6, 21-14.

Meanwhile, Maria Fe Sevellino of the City Health Department stunned Vivian Soquino of the Department of Social Welfare Services, 21-5, 21-5 to win the Women's Singles title while the tandem of Charisma Rinquejo and Menerva Zafra nipped Elsy Omblero and Helda Santos, 21-22, 22-20 to top the Women's Doubles.

In chess, the Department of Public Services woodpushers are currently in the lead after three rounds after sweeping the Accounting Department, 4-0 while the City Treasurer's Office beat the Sangguniang Panglungsod, 3-1, the same winning score logged by the Department of Engineering and Public Works against CCMC. The City Health Department and DSWS drew their third round match.

The finals of the chess event will be this Friday.
