Carlos rules Faldo jungolf tourney by 9 strokes

Philippine Daily Inquirer

SAN PEDRO, Laguna?Jobim Carlos completed his impressive stint in unfamiliar territory with a second sub-par round, shooting a one-under 71 to walk away with the overall title in the Faldo Series Philippines Championship at the TAT Filipinas Golf Club course here.

The bespectacled Carlos carried the momentum of a brilliant three-under 69 start into the final round and rampaged to a nine-stroke overall win in the 36-hole event that featured the country?s top jungolfers with 140 total, four under over up-and-down course.

As the Under 18 division champion, Carlos finished far ahead of Bino dela Paz, Brent Sumampong, Regine de Guzman and Irina Gabasa who earned the other slots disputed here for next year?s Faldo Series Grand final at the Mission Hills Golf Club in Shenzhen, China.

Dela Paz claimed the boys Under 16 title by three strokes over Cebu bet Angelo Gandionco with a 74-149 while Sumampong (77-156) edged Sonny Villaber for the boys Under 21 plum.

De Guzman and Gabasa finished 1-2 in the girls division. De Guzman scored 73-149 while Gabasa rallied with a 74-153.

Atty. Edna Pana, president of TAT Filipinas, and new Jungolf Foundation of the Philippines president Luigi Tabuena handed the qualifiers their trophies and medals.
