SAC prexy, ABS anchor top Press Freedom Run

Cebu Daily News

LAWYER and television news anchor Haidee Acuña logged her best time in a five-kilometer run to rule the 5k women’s race while sports columnist John Pages topped the men’s event in yesterday's 1st Press Freedom Fun Run, which started and ended at the City Sports Club-Cebu in Cebu Business Park.

The vastly improved Acuña of television network ABS-CBN clocked 27 minutes and 12 seconds to take home the crown. She attributed her vast improvement to her rigid training regimen.

“I practice four times a week, which is equivalent to 40-50 kilometers of running,” said Acuña, who flashed a wide grin upon learning that she won the race.

Sun Star’s Marlen Limpag (29’30”23) and Bombo Radyo’s Charmy Sabigon (38’41”96) finished second and third respectively.

Pages for his part bagged the 5K men's title with a time of 21:51. He is gearing up for an upcoming 42K marathon in Quezon City. Runner-up honors went to SSD’s Edri Aznar (23’49”01) and Jorlito Montecillo (24’04”00)

The 3K women's crown was won by Sun.Star’s Irenelou Llego with dyRF’s Maridel Crescencio (18’17”12) and SSD’s Jovy Gerodias (22’48”90) as runners-up.

Superbalita sports editor Jun Migallen topped the men’s 3k with Ike Durano and Cebu Daily News’ Ariel Gomez rounding up the top three.

The race was supervised by veteran runner Raffy Uytiepo and the United Track and Field Athletes (Utafa)-Cebu.

Sports editor Rick Gabuya, Calvin Cordova and Kelvin Cañizares of this year’s Press Freedom convenor Cebu Daily News were on hand to help supervise the race. /EDITORIAL ASSISTANT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
