Sabals, Tolentino sisters Condura race favorites

Philippine Daily Inquirer

AT LEAST 8,500 RUNNERS are expected to flock to the Bonifacio Global City on Sunday when the Condura Run for the Dolphins fires off at 4 a.m. in Taguig?s running hub.

For the first time in its three stagings, a full marathon will run through the Skyway along with the 21-km race.

Veteran runners Elmer Sabal and Hernanie Sore are expected to figure prominently in the men?s 42K while sisters Ailene and Ellen Tolentino banner the distaff side.

Ailene was third placer in both the 2006 10K event and last year?s 21K.

Gerald Sabal and Alley Quisay are the top bets in the 21K event. Quisay placed second behind Eduardo Buenavista in the 21K last year.

The 2008 run raised funds for the Tubbataha Reef. Last year, organizers stretched the main event to 21 km and used a portion of the Skyway for the first time. Proceeds helped fund the protection and preservation of the whale sharks in Donsol, Sorsogon.

Runners are also joining 3K, 5K, 10K events. Organizers said registrants have surpassed last year?s 6,279 entries. This time, for every runner who registers, P50 will go to a fund managed by Condura to protect the dolphins of Bohol.

The 42K top male and female finishers will receive P60,000 each while P10,000 goes to the 21K race, which flags off at 5 a.m.
