MANILA, Philippines?Top seed Shanine Olivarez and second-ranked Marian Capadocia lined themselves up for a possible title duel with easy victories in the 16-under division of the 28th Philippine Columbian Association Open at the PCA indoor clayshell courts in Manila.
The girls? 18-under division also followed the same script with top seed Patricia Orteza and Marinel Rudas clinching semifinal seats.
But the spotlight fell on fifth seed AJ Rivero, who produced the biggest upset in the boys? 18-under after taking out top seed Nic Magaway, 4-6, 7-5, 10-6.
Olivarez, 15, blanked Patricia Ong, 6-0, 6-0, while Capadocia ousted JV Custodio, 7-5, 6-2.
Advancing opposite Olivarez is Samantha Coyiuto, who routed Monika Banez, 6-1, 6-1. Macy Gonzales bested Joana Carnay, 6-0, 6-1, and will test Capadocia in the other semifinal duel of the tournament presented by Cebuana Lhuillier. Cedelf P. Tupas
