THIRD SEED AILEEN ROGAN AND FOURTH SEED Michelle Pang dumped separate rivals yesterday to reach the second round of the 28th Philippine Columbian Association Open at the PCAA indoor clay-shell court in Manila.

Pang, a veteran of the Southeast Asian Games, took the first set with ease, but needed a strong finish to avert a second-set collapse on her way to a 6-0, 6-3 victory over 14-year-old Akiko de Guzman.

Pang?s win arrange a second round duel with Marinel Rudas, a 6-0, 7-5 winner over Ivy de Castro.

Rogan, looming as a strong challenger for the title because of her improving baseline game, showed fine form in a 6-1, 6-0 demolition of Kirstie Barraquias.

The other seeded players who made the second round were sixth ranked Jessica Agra, a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Zhane Quitara and seventh seed Regina Santiago, who blanked Jenelyn Magpayo, 6-0, 6-0.

Teenage sensation Jonicka Martina Guba, Jasmine Tan Ho, Samantha Coyuito, Shanine Olivarez and Lenlen Santos also moved into the second round.

Guba bundled out Louise Lopez, 6-1, 6-2, to earn a possible duel with top seed Christine Patrimonio, who was still playing Nikki Manalo at press time.

Tan Ho shut out Enah Baba, 6-0, 6-0; Coyiuto proved too strong for JV Custodio, 6-1, 6-0; Olivarez whitewashed Nikki de Dios, 6-0, 6-0, and Santos trounced Trudy Amoranto, 6-3, 6-3.
