MANILA, Philippines?A formidable foreign field will see action in the Asian Junior and Under-23 Triathlon Championships in May in Subic Bay.
China, Japan, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau, Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, Syria, India and Singapore are expected to field bets in the two-day event, which will mark the 18th year that an international triathlon is held in Subic.
?From these ranks (of athletes) will rise future triathlon stars in this region,? said Triathlon Association of the Philippines head Tom Carrasco Jr.
Elite and Under-23 bidders will compete in the Olympic distance of 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike and 10 km run. The sprint distance?750-m swim, 20-K bike and 5-K run?will be used for the junior class.
The race, co-presented by the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority and the Philippine Sports Commission, will start at the Dungaree Beach and end at the Waterfront. Cedelf P. Tupas
