Seek No. 6 vs Lady Blazers Tuesday

MANILA, Philippines — Fresh off its University Games title conquest, University of Santo Tomas resumes its bid in the Shakey’s V-League Season 6 second conference Tuesday at the FilOil-Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

The Tigresses, who became the first team to reach the quarterfinals after zooming to a 5-0 start, seek to extend their unbeaten run to six games when they clash with the College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers at 2 p.m. on the penultimate day of the elimination round.

The game means more to the Lady Blazers who, at 2-4, could nail an automatic quarterfinal berth with a victory over the Tigresses.

Already assured of a quarterfinal berth, Far Eastern University wraps up its preliminary round schedule at 4 p.m. against a Lyceum squad teetering on the brink of elimination, before Adamson University, returning after a two-week absence following its Unigames stint, battles San Sebastian College in the 6 p.m. duel.

Last quarterfinal berth

Winless in five games, the Lady Pirates need to sweep their remaining two games and hope that the Lady Blazers drop theirs to force a playoff for the last quarterfinal berth.

An FEU victory will hand St. Benilde an outright quarterfinal berth regardless of the outcome of the Lady Blazers-Tigresses showdown.

The Lady Tamaraws, led by the power hitting duo of Cherry Vivas and Shaira Gonzales, are gunning for their fifth straight victory and sixth in seven outings.

Still struggling without the players who figured prominently in their previous title runs, Adamson is out to improve on its 3-2 record against defending champion San Sebastian.

With Joy Benito tossing a career-high 24 points, the Lady Stags notched back-to-back wins after coming away with a pulsating five-set victory over fellow quarterfinalist Ateneo-Oracare last Sunday.

The quarterfinals will be a single-round affair with teams carrying over its elimination-round record. The top four squads will advance to the semifinals, where the No. 1 squad battles the No. 4 and the second and third-ranked squads will face off.
