MANILA, Philippines—University of Santo Tomas guns for an elimination-round sweep against old rival San Sebastian College on Friday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 6 second conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.
The 6 p.m. game marks the first time the two powerhouse squads will meet since the Tigresses nipped the Lady Stags for the first conference title last June.
Some of the Lady Stags’ stars, including Lou Ann Latigay and Sasa Devanadera, are no longer around, giving the Tigresses a slight edge in the last game of the triple-bill ending the eliminations.
A victory by San Sebastian would create a three-way tie among the Tigresses, the Lady Tams and the Lady Stags heading into the tough quarterfinal phase of the league sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza and backed by Mikasa, Accel, Mighty Bond and Oracare.
The records of the quarterfinalists will be carried over to the next phase.
Winless teams University of the Philippines and Lyceum of the Philippines clash in the first game at 2 p.m., while Ateneo-Oracare and Adamson University break their tie for fourth place at 4.
The Tigresses, who ruled the University Games in Iloilo, are coming off a straight-set victory over College of St. Benilde last Tuesday.
The Lady Stags, in contrast, survived Adamson in four sets. Cedelf P. Tupas
