MANILA, Philippines—Defending overall champion Rizal Technological University lived up to its top billing with another big show Thursday in the 22nd State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association-NCR games at the RTU quadrangle in Mandaluyong City.
RTU swept all 16 gold medals at stake in both the men’s and women’s divisions in taekwondo while dominating six other events to reassert its supremacy in the competitions.
RTU routed Technological University of the Philippines, 88-58, to take the men’s basketball lead with four wins, then beat Polytechnic University of the Philippines in boxing’s pinweight, light flyweight, flyweight and featherweight classes.
After clinching the softball crown with a 14-6 rout of PUP, RTU picked up three wins each in both divisions of chess, then stayed unbeaten in both men’s and women’s volleyball.
In other basketball games, PUP whipped Philippine Normal University, 101-54, for its third straight win while Marikina Polytechnic College crushed PNU, 68-54, for its first win in three games.
