Cebuana pool sensation Rubilen Amit stamped her name in the international billiards map after topping the 2009 Women?s World Ten Ball Championship held at the SM North Edsa in Quezon City Saturday night.
Amit first edged eight-time Japanese women's "Player of the Year" Akimi Kajitani, 9-8, in the semifinal round on Saturday to advance to the finals.
She then easily subdued Taiwanese Shin Mei-Liu, 10-4, in the finals to win the crown and the $20,000 purse.
The 27-year-old Amit, the top women player of RP God Father Aristeo "Putch" Puyat, put up a gallant stand against Kajitani, coming back from an 8-6 deficit to win the last three racks for a nerve-wracking 9-8 triumph.
The multiple Southeast Asian Games gold medallist Amit bowed to World No.1 Kelly Fischer in the opening round but bounced back in contention by demolishing Julie Kelly of Ireland 8-4 and Hsiang Ling Tan of Chinese-Taipei 8-3 in the knockout phase.
She then stunned "The Black Widow" Jeanette Lee, 9-8, in the quarterfinals.
