MANILA, Philippines--The Philippine Sports Commission approved on Saturday the entry of four divers into the national pool for the Guangzhou Asian Games but none of them was qualified to make the elite list which gets the maximum support from the agency.
PSC chair Harry Angping said former national diving heroine Shiela Mae Perez was included in the pool along with three others whom he did not name.
The decision came in the wake of the PSC?s move to refurbish the diving pools?after 25 years?in the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and the Philsports in Pasig to meet Olympic standards.
?We are trying to revive the pools and hopefully also revive our divers? performances,? said Angping, who expects the pools to be operational by March.
The pools, according to Angping, can give the national divers alternative training venues aside from the Trace Aquatics Center in Los Baños, Laguna.
The national divers went home with four silvers medals and a bronze during the Southeast Asian Games in Laos last December.
